Suspect Arrested in Disturbance Incident

A suspect was arrested Saturday, July 27 after officers from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call regarding a disturbance involving two men in the 4900 North block of County Road 325 West at 6:39 p.m. CT.

An officer arrived at the scene and was directed to the basement of the residence. A man was found unconscious on the floor, according to the report. Police say the 54-year-old man had sustained upper body injuries during the incident. A second man, 53-year-old Phillip L. Jones, was located in the basement near the victim and was taken into custody.

The victim was transported to a regional hospital for treatment where police say he remains in critical condition. Jones was transported to an area hospital for medical clearance and then transported to the La Porte County Jail.

A probable cause affidavit was presented to the La Porte County Prosecutor’s Office Monday, July 29. As a result, probable cause was found and Jones was officially charged with a Level 3 Felony count of aggravated battery and a Level 5 Felony count of domestic battery.


Jones remains in the La Porte County Jail on a $50,005 cash bond.

The La Porte County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division, La Porte County EMS, and the Center and Springfield Township Volunteer Fire Departments.

Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
