North Judson Town Council Accepts Resignation of Town Marshal

The North Judson Town Council members took action on the public record Monday, August 19 to accept the resignation of North Judson Town Marshal Kelly Fisher.

Town Councilman Josh Brown read aloud Fisher’s resignation announcement into the record, “I am resigning from the NJPD as I feel with the previous surgeries I am not able to carry out my duties. I am requesting to be paid my vacation and PTO time. Thank you.”

The resignation letter was dated August 15. It was stamped that it was received August 16.

North Judson Town Manager Joe Leszek commented on behalf of the town by stating, “The Town of North Judson was recently made aware of Cause No. 20D04-2403-CM-000557. We have no comment regarding the pendency of that case. The Town of North Judson has accepted the resignation of Kelly Fisher effective Thursday, August 15, 2024. We will respect her privacy moving forward.”

Following the reading of those documents into the record, the council formally took action to unanimously accept her resignation and agree to the terms.

Later in the meeting, the council members also unanimously approved moving Chief Deputy Frank Thomas into the Interim Town Marshal position. His compensation will be adjusted accordingly. Officials will take the next steps necessary in the reorganization of the department and in the hiring process.

The Cause Number referred to is a case regarding a misdemeanor theft charge out of Elkhart County against Fisher of which a Pre-Trial Diversion document was filed. According to the Chronological Case Summary, the Pre-Trial Diversion Agreement was filed July 24, 2024 and accepted by the court the following day. A request for those documents is pending. Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
