North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Department Battles Hay Bale Fire

The North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Department was called to battle a hay bale fire Saturday, August 3 in the area of 1175 S. and 300 W.

Fire Chief Todd Jackson told WKVI News that they were notified of a hay bale on fire, but when firefighters arrived at the scene, there were about 25 rounded straw bales on fire. He said a local farmer brought in a wheel loader and helped separate the bales so firefighters could better tackle the fire.

In all, Jackson said about 20,000 gallons of water was used to extinguish the fire. Firefighters were at the scene for about three hours.

It was a rather hot and humid day and Jackson said Starke County EMS personnel were at the scene to make sure all firefighters were hydrated and safe. There was plenty of water to fight the fire and to help those fighting the fire.

There were no injuries reported.

The Knox-Center Township Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
