The Oregon-Davis School Board approved a schedule moving forward as it pertains to the 2025 budget.
The board will authorize the advertisement of the Capital Projects Plan and the Bus Replacement Plan during their meeting September 4 which will be posted on the school’s website and the Indiana Gateway website. The board will hold a budget work session September 11 at 6:30 p.m. CT with the public hearing on the budget September 18 and the adoption of the budget October 2.
The board also took a hard look at the corporation’s ILEARN scores and scores of each individual grade for English/Language Arts and Math. While the corporation is ahead of the other two county schools in some aspects of the scores, there is improvement to be made. Over an hour was spent on ways to help students and teachers improve scores and it was noted that stabilization in the teaching staff in the Math department will help improve student scores. The board expressed concern about the low scores of students moving into the Junior/Senior High School setting and work will be done to help improve the transition.
More communication was discussed as a way to bridge the gap in helping to make students more successful.
The building principals explained that all schools in the state saw a dip in scores during COVID and that trend is starting to come back as students remain in the classroom setting and not a mix of virtual and in-person learning. Strategies are currently in place to help students who may be struggling with passing scores.
