Another Arrest Made in Hamlet Home Invasion Investigation

Another arrest has been made in the August 3 Hamlet home invasion investigation conducted by the Hamlet Police Department and the Starke County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation began Saturday August 3, on South Starke Street in Hamlet when a couple living in the home was attacked by an intruder.  One of the victims, Connie Bailey, died on August 16 as a result of the injuries she sustained in the attack. Her husband, Hank Bailey, also sustained serious injuries during the incident.

David Campbell, 40, of Hamlet, was originally taken into custody on August 5 in connection with the incident. Earlier this week, the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office filed to amend the original charges on Campbell to include murder.

On Tuesday September 17, investigators presented the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office with information regarding a female that was allegedly involved in the August 3 incident. The female was identified as Ashley Bierod, 35, of Knox.  A probable cause affidavit was filed connecting Bierod to the incident and a warrant was issued for Bierod Friday, September 20.

After obtaining the warrant, deputies with the Starke County Sheriff’s Office took Bierod into custody. She was transported to the Starke County Justice Center and booked on one count of murder, two counts of burglary with serious bodily injury, two counts of burglary resulting in serious bodily injury, 2 counts of burglary resulting in bodily injury, two counts of aggravated battery, two counts of burglary, two counts of battery resulting in bodily injury, and one count of assisting a criminal.

Bierod is currently being held on a $150,000 cash bond.

Suspects are considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
