A Democratic Caucus was held Monday, September 9 to find a new candidate for the Hamlet Town Council District 3 seat and a candidate for the vacancy on the November General Election ballot.
Connie Bailey held the District 3 seat until her passing in mid-August. Her term was to end December 31, 2024, but was a candidate on the November General Election ballot for the same seat for another four-year term.
Shirley Budka was the only candidate who filed the proper paperwork with Democratic Chairman Lonnie Boley. Boley and Cliff Stevens were the only two Democrat Precinct Committeemen eligible to vote in the Caucus. By acclamation, meaning Budka was unopposed for the vacancy, she was voted into the Hamlet Town Council District 3 seat. That action was taken by a unanimous vote of the Precinct Committeemen.
The same action was taken when placing Budka in the Hamlet Town Council District 3 vacancy on the November General Election ballot.
Knox City Clerk-Treasurer Cyndi Mann-Kidder swore Budka into office shortly after the conclusion of the Caucus.
