The Starke County Democratic Party will hold a Caucus to fill the District 3 seat on the Hamlet Town Council and another Caucus event to Caucus a candidate on the General Election ballot in November.
The Hamlet Town Council District 3 seat was held by Connie Jean Howard Bailey who passed away August 16.
The District 3 seat term ends December 31, 2024 and the Democratic Party is seeking a candidate to fill the seat. Any candidate interested in serving should be a Democrat in good standing and must reside in District 3 in the Town of Hamlet. A Declaration of Candidacy and Letter of Intent must be filed in writing with Democratic Party Chairman Lonnie Boley at 9840 E. 500 N. in Grovertown three days, or 72 hours, prior to the Caucus.
The Caucus is set for Monday, September 9 at 4:30 p.m. CT at the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center at 55 W. Lake Street in Knox. A second Caucus will be held immediately after to Caucus in a candidate to be on the General Election ballot. That candidate would serve a four year term beginning January 1, 2025.
Democrat Precinct Committeemen or their proxy will be eligible to vote for the candidate.
