Be Safe this Halloween

Hundreds of trick-or-treaters will be out in full force in in Starke County and in Pulaski County tonight as communities have scheduled hours for children to gather candy and show off their costumes.

Trick-or-treating in Knox is tonight from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. CT, in Hamlet it is from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. CT, and in North Judson it is from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. CT.

In Pulaski County, Winamac and Francesville will have trick-or-treating from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. ET tonight while Medaryville will have trick-or-treating Friday, November 1 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. ET.

Parents are encouraged to remind their children not to eat any of the treats they receive until they get home. This will allow parents to check the candy for opened packages, or potentially dangerous objects.

Children should have a flashlight, glow stick, or reflective material on their costume so they can be seen clearly.

Children should always be accompanied by an adult or use a buddy system.  Have a plan if groups get separated.  It is recommended that children trick-or-treat at homes that have an outdoor light turned on.  They should never enter the home of a stranger.

Drivers should slow down and travel with caution during trick-or-treat hours.
