Harold Smith was officially sworn into office as the Chief of Police for the Knox Community School Corporation Police Department in a small ceremony Thursday, October 10 in the Administration Office.
Knox Community School Superintendent Greg Mikulich stated that Chief Smith brings years of experience to the position and commitment to the community he serves. He commented that he is confident that under Smith’s leadership that the partnership between the schools and the police department will grow stronger. The pair will work together to create proactive programs to promote safety, respect and mutual understanding between the students and law enforcement officers. These initiatives will ensure the students will feel protected and empowered at the schools.
Mikulich added that students will have a trusted officer to turn to for help.
Starke County Sheriff Jack Rosa gave the oath to Smith and documents were signed to make it official as attested by Starke County Sheriff’s Office Matron April Wilhelm.
Light refreshments were offered by the attendees who included key personnel of the school corporation.
