The North Judson-San Pierre School Board approved the necessary steps Tuesday night to create its own Corporation Police Department.

Superintendent Kelly Shepherd said School Resource Officer Chris Kisela presented all of the necessary information and documents to the board to take formal action. He said the board unanimously approved everything necessary to create the North Judson-San Pierre Police Department.

“We kind of followed suit with Oregon-Davis and Knox,” said Shepherd. “It has become a growing trend and really what it does is achieve efficiency for the school SRO, but also makes our town and county departments more efficient because they don’t have to provide us with as much assistance. We have been the beneficiary of a great relationship with both the Town of North Judson Police Department as well as Starke County and those cooperative efforts are going to continue.”

Following the approval of documents, School Board President Doug Wilde swore in Chris Kisela as the North Judson-San Pierre Police Department Chief of Police.
