Oregon-Davis School Board Addresses Recent School Threat Incident

Oregon-Davis School Superintendent Bill Bennett made a statement during the school board’s meeting Wednesday night concerning an investigation into a threat incident that occurred recently at the school corporation.

In a previous press release issued by the school corporation, initial findings reportedly suggest that this case stems from an extreme incident of bullying. As a result, the press release noted that multiple individuals are being investigated and officials are exploring all possible angles. If probable cause is determined at the conclusion of the investigation, appropriate charges will be filed.

During Wednesday’s meeting, Bennett stated, “First and foremost, I want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students is our top priority. We are working closely with law enforcement and relevant authorities to ensure that all necessary steps are being taken to maintain a safe environment for our children.

“We understand that many of you may have questions and concerns about the specifics of the situation. Unfortunately, due to legal and privacy considerations involving minors, we are unable to disclose all the details at this time. This is to protect the integrity of the investigation and to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

“Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we navigate this situation together. We will continue to provide updates as appropriate, and we appreciate your ongoing trust and support.”

He opened the meeting for public comment but noted that in order to maintain the integrity of the investigation direct questions would not be answered.

There were comments made about taking a harder look at disciplinary measures within the school and having more effort in contacting parents about issues with students at the school if they’re involved. School Board President Ben Lady commented that the school corporation does take the issues seriously and there are ongoing investigations. Updates will be provided as they are available.
