Deputies from the Starke County Sheriff’s Office were called to the 8000 South block of 1000 East for a report of an underage drinking party in the late evening hours of Friday, October 25.
Police say when they arrived at the scene they found approximately 500 attendants who were suspected to be in their late teens to early 20s. Some of the attendees fled from the scene.
Deputies began to clear the crowd when they heard of a physical altercation on the second level of the building. They found subjects fighting on the stairs and observed a male subject get stomped on by two subjects, according to the report. Officers attempted to take the two into custody, but were reportedly met with resistance.
Raymond Milon, 19, of South Bend and Niles, was taken into custody with minimal effort while the second suspect, 23-year-old Arizona Nies, of Elkhart, was taken into custody after deployment of a tazer, according to the report. Police say Nies attempted to flee while being escorted to a police vehicle but was quickly apprehended.
Nies was found to be wanted on an active warrant out of Elkhart County once his real identity was discovered, according to the report.
Deputies learned that this party originated from a Snap Chat advertisement that quickly got out of control. The homeowner, who was out of town at the time of incident, was not aware of the advertised party.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing and formal charges will be determined by the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office.
Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
