The Pulaski County Election Board members conducted a public test of selected voting machines Wednesday morning at the Pulaski County Highway Garage.
The board members conduct the public tests to ensure election equipment is properly programmed and functioning ahead of the election.
The machines were tested to ensure that each candidate received at least one vote on the ballot styles. The board members verified that each candidate did receive at least one vote each so all was done correctly.
When the test was complete, the machines were reset to zero and were locked and stored.
Pulaski County Clerk JoLynn Behny reminded the poll workers who attended to observe the public test that training will be held in mid-October to get everyone ready for the General Election. Many poll workers are returning from previous years, but training is required.
She also pointed to new law concerning the chute at polling sites. The new law (IC 3-5-2-10) states that the chute is a 50 foot radius measured from the entrance at a polling site, early voting site, the office of the Circuit Court Clerk, or a satellite office of the Circuit Court Clerk. If the property line of the polling place or an office is less than 50 feet from the door or entrance to the polling place or office, the chute is measured from the exterior door or entrance to the polling place or office to one-half the distance to the property line of the polling place or office nearest to the entrance to the polls. Whenever there are two or more doors or entrances to the polls, the inspector of the precinct shall designate one door or entrance as the door for voters to enter for the purpose of voting.
This pertains to any county in the State of Indiana.
