Pulaski County to Help Celebrate America250

The nation plans to commemorate and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence July 4, 2026. Indiana is participating and Pulaski County is making plans for a local celebration.

Indiana created the Indiana Semiquincentennial Commission in 2022. During 2023, they began work on the structure for planning programs and projects of Indiana’s celebration. Their mission is to commemorate in Indiana the United States of America’s 250th anniversary. Their objectives are to involve all Hoosiers in the Celebration of America 250; to emphasize the strength of Hoosier ideas, hopes, and dreams; and to achieve a 250th Commemoration on which Hoosiers can reflect as a positive achievement at this time in Indiana’s and America’s history.

They have reached out to all 92 counties and have asked that each form an America250 Committee.

The Pulaski County Historical Society has been asked to form the local committee. To date, several emails have been sent to organizations that might be interested in becoming involved in local projects. An initial meeting has been set for Tuesday, October 29 at 6 p.m. ET at the Pulaski County Historical Society Museum, 500 South Monticello in Winamac (the Carriage House).

All interested parties are invited to attend, or, if unable to attend, to contact them to share your interest.

As for the projects that would be considered, the sky is the limit.
