Starke County Maintenance Director Rick Green presented the Starke County Commissioners with quotes last week to address two small leaks in the roof of the courthouse, and a remodeling project at the Annex No. 2 building on Pearl Street.
Green said Atlas submitted a quote of $15,773 to $22,306 for exterior repairs on the courthouse and $6,533 for an inspection. Mougin Roofing submitted a quote of $6,500 for the repairs and would also do a drone inspection at no extra cost. Commissioner Charles Chesak made a motion to approve Mougin Roofing which was seconded by Commissioner Mark Gourley. The motion passed with a unanimous vote of all three commissioners. The funding will come out of the Courthouse Maintenance Fund.
The remodeling project involves a reconfiguration of the Starke County Health Department with the addition of one office. Larson Daniels of La Porte submitted a quote of $65,585, Toppen, Inc. of DeMotte submitted a quote for $52,750, and EAM Construction of Knox submitted a quote for $56,157. Commissioner Gourley made a motion to approve the quote from EAM Construction as it is a local company. It was seconded and approved unanimously by all three commissioners. Half of the $52,750 will come out of the CEDIT Fund and the other half will come out of the Health Department’s budget. If all the American Rescue Plan Act funds earmarked for Stellar have not been used, that money will be used to pay for it.
Green said he will be looking to work with the City of Knox for a 50/50 sidewalk program grant in 2025 for the sidewalk at the south end of the Annex No. 2 building. Other sidewalk projects were also talked about with the commissioners.
