Starke County Historical Society Hosts Open House at the Schricker Home

The Starke County Historical Society invites the community to attend an open house Saturday, October 5 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. CT at former Governor and Mrs. Henry Schricker’s historic home at 401 S. Main Street in Knox.

Tours will be offered at the home as volunteers have conducted several repairs over the past several months. Displays can be seen of historic facts of the Schricker family and from Governor Henry Schricker’s political career.

According to the Starke County Historical Society, Henry Schricker served as the 36th and 38th governor of the State of Indiana. He is the only Indiana governor elected to two non-consecutive terms and the only governor between 1852 and 1977 to be elected to more than one term in office.

His motto was “service before self.”

In a prelude event, a ribbon tying event at the home is set for today (Friday, October 4) at 3:30 p.m. CT conducted by the Starke County Chamber of Commerce.
