Two Injured in Starke County Crash

Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident Saturday, October 19.

According to the Starke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the intersection of State Road 8 and 100 E. for a semi in the ditch. When they arrived at the scene they learned that an SUV was also involved in the crash. An investigation found that both vehicles were traveling east on State Road 8 when the driver of the SUV, 50-year-old Monica Guse, of Wanatah, came to a stop to make a left turn onto 100 E. While waiting for other traffic to pass, police say a semi with a trailer, driven by 74-year-old Gary Young, of Knox, had partially clipped the rear end of the SUV and then went off the roadway and into the ditch.

Young sustained minor injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital while Guze complained of pain, but refused medication attention at the time, according to the report.

The Starke County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Knox Police Department, Knox-Center Township Fire Department, North Judson Police Department, Indiana DOT, Howard’s Towing, and Starke County EMS.
