The Knox City Council discussed the 2025 salary ordinance during their last meeting.
The ordinance includes a $.75 per hour raise for employees. Mayor Dennis Estok said that is just less than a three percent raise for employees. Also included in the ordinance is a one percent increase for elected officials.
Mayor Estok noted that the pay for elected officials was shifted to be paid out of the General Fund. Historically, the elected officials have been paid a portion out of each utility, which is common practice of municipalities. In 2025, the ordinance will change that to be out of the General Fund. Mayor Estok commented that the utilities need all of the money that is available for needed maintenance and necessary purchases so the decision was made to make the change.
The council members unanimously approved the first reading of the ordinance. They then unanimously approved a motion to suspend the rules and unanimously approved a motion to approve the ordinance on second and third reading, thus adopting the ordinance.
