Knox City Police Chief Chad Dulin warns the community about the recent rise in reports of package thefts.
He said it appears that suspects are following FedEx, UPS, and Amazon delivery trucks, waiting for deliveries to be made, and then taking the packages from doorsteps once residents have left their homes.
As the holiday season approaches, Dulin says it is important for everyone to be vigilant and take steps to protect deliveries and prevent thefts from occurring. Package theft, also known as “porch piracy,” is a growing concern, but there are effective measures to take to safeguard your property, including tracking deliveries, using secure delivery locations, the use of surveillance cameras, requesting signature confirmation, scheduling deliveries for when you’ll be at home, asking neighbors for help, and marking packages to make recovery easier should they be stolen.
If you are a victim of package theft, contact the Knox Police Department immediately. Call 911 if you are witnessing a theft in progress, and file a report with the Knox City Police Department.
Community members should report suspicious activity in their neighborhoods. If you see anything that seems unusual, don’t hesitate to reach out to law enforcement.
