The North Judson Town Council members discussed the upcoming ribbon cutting ceremony for the Town Park improvement project during their meeting Monday night.
The ribbon cutting ceremony is set for Saturday, November 9 at noon CT. It will start with a short reception before the actual cutting of the ribbon.
Town Manager Joe Leszek said there are a few punchlist items left including the addition of more mulch in the zipline area and they’re going to put more wood around the tunnel to clean up that area. NIPSCO will be putting in a meter at the park so the pickleball and pavilion lights can be tested.
The utility department has been painting at the park and the council commented on the fresh appearance at the park. Leszek said there have been a lot of positive comments on the updates, and Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe said the design of the trails are ideal so there is clear sight of oncoming trail users.
The town was awarded a Land and Conservation Fund grant in the amount of $500,000 to help fund the upgrades to the park. There were other contributing funds from the North Judson Redevelopment Commission to come up with match money and from the county.
The park has several new features including sidewalks, a walking trail, two pickleball courts, a pavilion with picnic tables, permanent cornhole boards, and beach volleyball. The basketball court was also resurfaced. The park is located at the corner of Weninger and George Streets. The Ober Arbor Gleaners organization donated six picnic tables to be placed at the newly constructed pavilion.
