Several Starke County EMS employees signed up to volunteer to deliver non-perishable items to hurricane victims and they made that delivery last week.
Starke County EMS Director Jim Garner told WKVI News that the volunteers working to help those in need in Tennessee welcomed them with open arms and were grateful for the assistance. They were given items donated by the Starke County community. They were stocked in a manufacturing facility that reduced operations so it could be used as a donation hub for those in need.
Garner said the volunteers help feed anywhere from 300 to 500 people on a daily basis and they run out of food daily. Those in need are in need of winter items, and non-perishable items. He is working on collecting turkeys and hams for those suffering from the effects of the hurricanes. He will be going back the week of Thanksgiving to deliver any of those items if donated. Call Garner at the EMS Office at 574-772-9140 to discuss any donations to help hurricane victims.
The Starke County Commissioners previously approved a request from Garner to send four volunteers and a county transfer ambulance to aid in hurricane relief efforts. They were deployed to Tennessee Friday and came back Monday.
