The North Judson Town Park recently underwent an improvement project and town officials cut the ribbon to celebrate the completion of those improvements Saturday afternoon.
Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe provided comments on the project as well as Town Manager Joe Leszek. They mentioned the work done by the North Judson Park Board, North Judson Redevelopment Commission and the North Judson Town Council in getting the project funded through a $500,000 Land and Water Conservation Grant, $1.4 million in Redevelopment funds, and $200,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act funds approved by the Starke County Council.
The project began this Spring with work completed at the end of October.
The park has several new features including sidewalks, a walking trail, two pickleball courts, a pavilion with picnic tables, permanent cornhole boards, and beach volleyball. The basketball court was also resurfaced. The park is located at the corner of Weninger and George Streets. The Ober Arbor Gleaners organization donated six picnic tables to be placed at the newly constructed pavilion.
Rowe mentioned that a second phase is more sidewalk work which will be a focus next year.
Several kids were at the park playing on the new equipment and some pickleball players were playing a match Saturday afternoon following the ribbon cutting ceremony.
