The Winamac Town Council members approved the 2025 salaries in three different ordinances Monday night.
Town Attorney Justin Schramm explained that there were three different ordinances for the council members to sign. To avoid violating nepotism laws, there were ordinances presented for certain council members to abstain from voting for those purposes. He said it is common in small towns to have these types of situations so he asked the council to approve the ordinances and the members affected to abstain on voting on certain ordinances in an abundance of caution. The documents were approved with abstentions as noted.
Overall, Town Manager Brad Zellers commented that they took a hard look at salary adjustments for 2025 and increased a lot of positions in line of pay according to similar positions in other municipalities and Accelerate Indiana Municipalities standards.
