North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Chief Updates Town Council

North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Chief Todd Jackson updated the North Judson Town Council on operations for the year.

He explained that the department responded to 16 runs for the month of November and the department had 263 runs from December 1, 2023 to December 1, 2024. Those runs added up to 1,668 total runs for all firefighters in the department.

Jackson also gave details of a structure fire Wednesday, November 27 at about 12:45 a.m. CT. When firefighters arrived on scene there was a fully engulfed fire coming out of the front of the house. Two firefighters went into the home and made a quick attack on the fire and then searched the property and found a victim inside the house. He said Louie Matzat and Kevin Brown pulled the victim from the fire. He stressed that the quick efforts of the firefighters, Starke County EMS, and the North Judson Police Department allowed the victim to be transported quickly to an area hospital for treatment. He stated the firefighters arrived at the scene and it took about two-and-a-half minutes to locate the victim and pull the victim to safety. Jackson reported that the victim is still recovering in the hospital. The fire remains under investigation by the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office.
