Starke County Highway Superintendent Rachel Oesterreich presented a request to to the Starke County Commissioners Monday morning to remove two roadway segments from the INDOT inventory.
She explained that 400 S. west of State Road 23 (about .56 of a mile) and what would be 350 S. west of State Road 23 (about .38 of a mile) need to be removed from INDOT’s inventory because those locations are not developed roadways. It is not known how those segments got included in INDOT’s inventory as they are not roadways. The segments were added December 7, 2007.
She noted there is no 350 S. west of State Road 23 but that segment is a half-mile north of 400 S. so if it was measured that would be its identity.
Oesterreich commented that she went to the Auditor’s Office and looked at the county’s GIS and those areas are not drawn as roads. They are simply just pieces of land that are already owned by the adjoining property owners and that they are paying taxes on already.
The commissioners present at the meeting unanimously approved a motion to remove those segments from INDOT’s inventory.
