Suspect Arrested in Starke County Death Investigation

A suspect has been arrested in a death investigation in Starke County.

Starke County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to a home in the 2600 block of Donna Street in North Judson Friday, December 6 to perform a welfare check on a man who had not been heard from since Tuesday, December 3.

Deputies arrived at the residence and noticed a heavy gas odor emitting from inside the residence. Police say after it was safe the deputies entered the home with officers from the North Judson Police Department and found a deceased man identified as Landon Minix.

An investigation began with detectives from the Starke County Sheriff’s office and the Indiana State Police. Once they started to process the scene, they found some discrepancies, according to the report. Detectives were able to find more information and identified a person of interest. That person was identified as Timothy Minix, the victim’s son.

Further investigation found that Minix could be at a residence in Fulton County.

The Starke County Sheriff’s Office Strategic Response Team was activated Saturday, December 7 where they responded to the 4500 block of Bowen Street in Leiters Ford in Fulton County. The Team partnered with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, Rochester Police Department, and the Culver Police Department to approach the residence. Officers announced themselves and asked if Timothy Minix was in the residence. Police say it was confirmed that he was in the bathroom and officers were given permission to enter the residence. Strategic Response Team members entered the bathroom and took Minix into custody without incident. He was taken to the Starke County Justice Center where he was interviewed by detectives.

Minix was then booked into the Starke County Jail. Formal charges have been filed by the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office including murder, felony murder, burglary as a Level 1 Felony, and theft as a Level 6 Felony.

Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Starke County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Culver Police Department, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, Rochester Police Department, the Starke County Coroner’s Office, Starke County Dispatch Center, and Pit Stop Towing.
