The Winamac Town Council met in special session Thursday, December 12 in order to have additional readings on several ordinances discussed during the council’s December 9 meeting.
Only three members were present for the December 9 meeting: Tom Murray, Alvin Parish and Judy Heater. They approved the first reading on all three ordinances, but a special meeting was held last Thursday so all members could vote on additional readings of the ordinances.
The council approved the second and third readings of an ordinance that addresses over $78,000 in additional appropriations, and an ordinance that pertains to benefits as part of the salary ordinance for 2025. Insurance benefits went up 15 percent. An ordinance that vacates a cul de sac on Terrace Drive off of State Road 14 in Winamac was also approved on second and third readings.
Also during the December 9 meeting, Refined owner Angie Anspach read a letter to the council to express her disappointment that the town did not do more to help her business when a water main broke and flooded the basement. While the town has been waiting on insurance for assistance, she said she worries for the future of her business.
Town Manager Brad Zellers said more information on a fire territory is being gathered for more discussion, information and quotes for better cameras at the town facilities will be presented at the January meeting, generators are needed for the fire department, and leaf pick-up is done for the year.
