Culver Community School Board Signs Lease Agreement with Culver Youth Club

The Culver Community School Board members took action last week to sign a lease agreement with the Culver Youth Club Board for the construction of a new building for the organization on the grounds of the school corporation.

Superintendent Karen Shuman said the project was recently awarded READI funds in the amount of $300,000 and it is awaiting the award of funds from a Lilly grant in the amount of $600,000. The school corporation will be matching the READI funds and private donations will be sought for the remaining funds for the project is projected to cost about $1.5 million.

The new building would house classrooms, a gymnasium, and restroom facilities. There would be enough space for programs and a possible daytime daycare component.

In other business, the board approved a bid from Phend and Brown to resurface the track at a cost of $352,715. The project will begin after this year’s track season.
