Koontz Lake-Oregon Township Fire Department Fire Chief Andy Lawrence recently released statistics for 2024.
Lawrence said the department has 15 volunteers and there were no calls missed by any of the volunteers. They responded to 254 medical calls, 25 brush fires, 59 crashes, 2 water rescues, 30 structure fires, 37 investigations, 13 alarm calls, and 4 vehicle fires. Overall, they were called to 424 calls.
The fire station on State Road 23 in Koontz Lake also received a new digital sign with the help of funding from the Starke County Commissioners and Starke County Council, Koontz Lake Lions, Koontz Lake Association, and the Oregon Township Trustee and Advisory Board members.
