The La Porte County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal structure fire.
Deputies responded to a residence in the 200 South block of Longshore Drive just after 7 a.m. CT Sunday, January 5 in reference to a structure fire.
After arriving, they approached the residence where excessive smoke prevented them from safely entering to search for any occupants inside.
Once the fire had been knocked down by the several volunteer firefighters who had responded, entry was made inside. Police say the resident, 64-year-old Ronald D. Conrad, was located and declared deceased.
La Porte County Sheriff’s Department detectives along with a representative from the State Fire Marshal’s Office, were contacted and responded to the scene to investigate.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The La Porte County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Lincoln, Pleasant, and Kankakee Township Volunteer Fire Departments, La Porte County EMS, and the La Porte County Coroner’s Office.
