With the increase of students seeking alternative graduation pathways that would lead them directly into the workforce, the North Judson-San Pierre School Board members discussed the future of vocational programming when they met Tuesday, January 21.
Superintendent Dr. Kelly Shepherd spurred the conversation saying an opportunity to purchase a facility in North Judson could assist with offering more vocational programs to area students, but it may take some partnership with the Center for Workforce Innovations, county government, and the Starke County Economic Development Foundation to take the next step. The options for programs to get students on the direct path toward a specific trade could be endless, but more discussions would need to be held before any action is taken. Other options are also on the table as school officials look toward student success and adult education.
Dr. Shepherd has already worked on bringing in masonry and bricklaying as an additional trade.
While that conversation is ongoing, the school board is working first on facility projects this year. A bond was recently obtained to address several needs including roofing, science labs, and track resurfacing.
