North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Chief Todd Jackson was before the Starke County Commissioners last week to request the purchase of radios.
In December, he asked the commissioners for $14,029.76 to purchase radios to replace the outdated radios. The commissioners previously approved $5,000 for each fire department in the county to help with purchases and this money would help purchase new radios. It was noted that the commissioners have given additional funds to the Hamlet-Davis Township Fire Department for the purchase of radios and to the Koontz Lake-Oregon Township Fire Department to assist in the purchase of a digital sign.
The commissioners approved Jackson’s request in December with a recommendation to go to the Starke County Council to determine which fund the request. The council later agreed to take the money out of the CEDIT fund for a final approval by the Starke County Commissioners. The commissioners unanimously gave final approval to the request last week.
