A La Porte woman was arrested Sunday, January 19 after the La Porte County Sheriff’s Department investigated a single vehicle accident where the homeowner reported the driver initially being nude, inside her residence and taking a shower.
The deputy arrived and located a silver 2007 BMW crashed head-on into a tree. He was met outside by the homeowner who confirmed the driver of the crashed vehicle did not reside at the residence. The vehicle had also crashed into a basketball hoop prior to crashing into the tree.
The deputy entered the home and made his way toward the bathroom. He discovered the door was locked and began giving commands to the woman. She exited, was wrapped in just a towel, and identified as 37-year-old Michelle N. Reeves, of La Porte.
Police say further investigation determined Reeves had stolen the vehicle from a nearby residence. The vehicle had been idling in a driveway when Reeves reportedly stole it and crashed into the basketball hoop and a tree.
Reeves was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital for medical clearance. She was later transported to the La Porte County Jail on preliminary charges of theft, unauthorized entry of a vehicle used in a crime, criminal mischief, and public nudity.
The La Porte County EMS and Scipio Township Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
