Two Injured in Thursday Morning Accident in Starke County

Two people were injured in an accident that occurred Thursday, January 16 in the east bound lanes of U.S. 30 at the intersection with 1200 East in Starke County.

According to the Starke County Sheriff’s Office, when deputies arrived at the scene, a white Jeep was upside down off the roadway on the south side of U.S. 30. This vehicle in question involved a female later identified as Vicki Boyle, of Hamlet, who was trapped inside the vehicle. The other vehicle involved was a semi-truck/trailer driven by Brady Pugh, from Lima, OH.  Both parties were transported to area hospitals for injuries.

Police say an investigation found that the white Jeep was traveling east in the right lane at a slower speed due to the roadway surface conditions. During this time, the semi-truck was also traveling in the same lane and did not realize the Jeep was traveling a slower pace.  The semi-truck then rear-ended the Jeep causing it to go off the roadway and rolling over, according to the report.

The Starke County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Starke County EMS and the Koontz Lake-Oregon Township Fire Department.
