
The Winamac Metropolitan Board of Police Commissioners and the Winamac Town Council members approved the hire of a new police chief in a recent meeting.
Branson Eber will start full-time as police chief with the Winamac Police Department once his retirement paperwork is complete with the state. He is working part-time with the department until that process is done and until then, the council members approved a resolution that determines a fee until his full-time status is active. Eber has about 10 years of law enforcement experience.
Town officials also approved the hire of Brett Funk as a patrolman for the Winamac Police Department. Both Eber and Funk come from Logansport. Funk will begin at the department February 13.
There are now five officers on the Winamac Police Department with the anticipation of the hire of another patrolman soon.
The Winamac Police Department is currently working with the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department with coverage in the Winamac area. The Winamac Town Council approved an ordinance during their January 13 meeting that pertains to the understanding that the deputies with the Sheriff’s Department will follow the town’s ordinances when it comes to enforcement.
