The Starke County Commissioners met in special session Friday, February 21 where they reviewed expenses for two squad cars.
During their meeting Tuesday night, the Starke County Council approved the funding for the purchase of two squad cars in the amount of $83,292, and $27,533.74 to outfit the cars. The council members thought the expenses should come out of the Cumulative Capital Development Fund and the matter was brought before the commissioners Friday afternoon during their special session.
Starke County Sheriff Jack Rosa, Chief Deputy Wayne James and Matron April Wilhelm presented the information to the commissioners during their special session. The commissioners had asked for additional quotes and a quote from Cops Gear came in at $535 more than what was approved by the county council. The Cops Gear quote included the body camera removal and installation and the technicians are certified to conduct that work so that quote was recommended to the commissioners. It was noted that the difference of about $535 previously approved the council will come out of the Sheriff’s Commissary Fund budget.
