According to an incident report from the Knox Police Department, on April 16th, department officers responded to a report of a suicidal patient who had fled from the hospital.
Officers located the individual near the McDonald’s in the area.
During the encounter the suspect assaulted the responding officer, prompting an “Officer Down” dispatch.
Additional units quickly responded and the suspect was safely apprehended.
The officer was transported to the hospital and is currently being treated for injuries.
The Knox Police Department stated they were grateful for the swift response of the officers and the support of the Indiana State Police, Starke County Sheriff’s Office, Hamlet Police Department, and the citizens of our community.
The investigation is ongoing and further details will be released as appropriate.
