A press release from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office stated that on April 14th at around 5:11pm, a deputy was dispatched to the 3600 north block of County Line Road in reference to a reported unconscious subject near New Carslisle.
A motorist traveling on County Line Road had observed an individual laying on an access road just east of County Line Road.
The subject was identified as 50-year-old Nicholas E. Irvine of Michigan City.
Irvine was transported by ground to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Investigation revealed that the vehicle Irvine had been driving, a 2009 Chevrolet, crashed in a ditch located in an agriculture field between County Road 1100 West and County Line Road, just south of County Road 400 North.
Toxicology results are pending, and an autopsy will be performed to determine cause and manner of the death.
