According to a press release from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, a Michigan City couple has been charged with neglect and battery of an infant.
The case began on February 3rd, when a Deputy responded to the Franciscan Health Michigan City Campus regarding a case of child abuse involving a 7-week-old infant who was being treated for injuries that required transport to a regional children’s hospital due to their severity.

The infant’s parents, Kaitlyn M. Weissert, age 23; and Kyle A. Hollihan, age 26; both of Michigan City, were identified as suspects of causing injuries to the child.
Detective Derrick Deck investigated the case and presented his findings to the La Porte County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Probable cause was found on March 25th to charge both parents with several felony counts.
Both Weissert and Hollihan were arrested on April 2nd on warrants that had been issued for their arrests.
Both Weissert and Hollihan are being charged with Domestic Battery and Neglect Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury; with Hollihan having additional Domestic Battery and Neglect charges.
Both are being held on $25,000 bonds.
This case is ongoing and all parties are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
