According to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, the 21st Annual National Veterans Awareness Ride went through La Porte County Wednesday morning.
La Porte County Sheriff’s Office was able to send 12 deputies to assist with this leg of the ride. LCSO deputies staffed and cleared major intersections along US Highway 421 as the group of motorcyclists traveled from north to south through the county.
The National Veterans Awareness Ride is a 13-day ride hosted by the National Veterans Awareness Organization, a non-profit that honors veterans. On the National Veterans Awareness Ride, veterans ride from Auburn California to Washington DC.
The riders also have goals along the way: every day of the ride, they visit veterans in their homes and hospitals; they participate in memorial services; and they visit schools and talk with students about giving back to their communities, serving in the military, and how to show respect for our military veterans.
