Wildfire Community Preparedness Day May 3rd

Pulaski County Emergency Management is encouraging people to take part in a nationwide campaign to help people protect their homes from wildfires. Wildfire Community Preparedness Day is this Saturday May 3rd.

On May 3rd, homeowners are encouraged to take steps to help minimize the spread of wildfires at their home. The National Fire Protection Association, or NFPA, notes that the area within 100 feet of your home is known as the Home Ignition Zone.

They state that keeping this area clear of brush and debris can have a significant impact on minimizing damage and loss in the case of a fire; noting that even clearing the immediate 5-foot zone around a home can make a difference in avoiding a catastrophe.

Pulaski County Emergency Management further instructs people to prepare ‘go bags’ and know where to find information on current wildfire threats, in case evacuation is ever necessary.
