Those wishing to be more involved in local decision-making have the opportunity to make a difference by joining a local board.
There are several board members needed in the area, including vacancies on the Starke County Planning Commission, the Starke County Board of Zoning Appeals, the Solid Waste Board, the Tax Board of Appeals, and the Knox City Planning Commission. For the Knox City Planning Commission vacancy, the applicant must be outside the city limits but still within the 2-mile jurisdiction.
