The Town of Culver recently reminded its residents that their Recycle Pickup drivers are now checking the contents of recycling containers on their routes as the company (Republic Services) has reported a number of issues with residents placing non-recyclable materials in recycling containers such as trash and yard waste.
The Town of Culver noted that if drivers observed items in recycling bins that were not meant to be there, the recycling containers would not be emptied.
As a final note, the City of Culver instructed that recycling items should be loose in their containers as opposed to placed in plastic bags.
They also attached a list of non-recyclable items for clarity, that was created by Republic Services. The list includes both recyclable and non-recyclable item lists. Items that should not be recycled include but are not limited to aerosol cans, appliances, batteries, bubble wrap, coat hangers, electrical cords, food waste, plastic grocery bags, sports equipment, stuffed animals, syringes, razor blades, and tires.
The list notes that items that can be recycled include plastics that have the recycling arrow symbol on them, metal cans, aluminum foil items, cardboard, newspapers, magazines and books; and paper food containers such as juice boxes, egg cartons, milk containers, and cereal and pasta boxes. Paper items and brown, green, and clear glass can also be recycled.
