Air Quality Action Day Forecast by Indiana Department of Environmental Management for Northwest Indiana July 16

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management, or IDEM, has forecast that today, July 16th, an Air Quality Action Day.

IDEM has announced that Ozone levels are expected to be in the Orange range, or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups, in Northwest Indiana. This includes the cities of Crown Point, Gary, Hammond, Kentland, LaPorte, Michigan City, Portage, Rensselaer, Valparaiso, and all other cities within the area.

According to IDEM, continued high temperatures, modest humidity, light winds under mostly sunny skies, along with some Canadian wildfire smoke could enhance ozone production over southern Lake Michigan.
