According to an announcement from the Starke County Sheriff’s Office 911 Communications Center, residents are instructed to NOT call 911 to report fireworks violations over the holiday weekend.
Any resident calling to complain about fireworks will be asked to instead contact the non-emergency line, which is 574-772-3771.
Again, noise violations do not constitute emergencies and the 911 line should not be used to report fireworks. These calls tie up the 911 system and may delay or prevent a true emergency call from getting through.
Additionally, in the City of Knox, fireworks are allowed from 9am to midnight on July 4th; and from 9am to 11pm any other day. Fireworks inside of those hours should not be reported.
Residents of Starke County at large are permitted to light fireworks from 10am to midnight on the 4th of July, though it is recommended to check with your city to see if there are any overriding fireworks ordinances that should be followed.
