On September 19th, 2025 at 11:59 AM, La Porte County deputies responded to State Road 39 and CR 900 North, reference a crash involving a bicyclist and a commercial motor vehicle. The initial on-scene investigation completed by Deputy Josh Smith and assisting deputies determined the following had occurred.
A group of bicyclists were riding south on the shoulder of SR 39 approaching CR 900 North. A CMV (tractor-trailer combination) being operated by 64-year-old Charles E. Akemon of Demotte was traveling south on SR 39. The CMV moved to the left in a passing zone to overtake/pass the group of bicyclists.
While doing so, one of the cyclists, 29-year-old Mason R. Anderson of Chicago, began making a left (east) turn onto CR 900 North. Akemon steered the CMV further left to avoid Anderson. However, Anderson collided with the trailer.
Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Toxicology tests results are pending. No further information is available for release.
