
According to an announcement from the City of La Porte’s Utility Billing Office, some customers are incurring late fees due to issues with their personal banks’ online bill pay option.
The City of La Porte lets citizens know that when you utilize an online bill pay option through your bank’s mobile app or website, it is frequently done through a third-party processing company who mails a check to where it needs to go. La Porte states that not only does this method of payment subject users to delays, but there was a recent issue where a processing company was mailing checks to the wrong city altogether; La Porte Texas, rather than La Porte Indiana.
According to the City of La Porte, the best way to avoid this hassle and late fees is to simply pay online at laportein.authoritypay.com, or by signing up for Auto Pay with a checking or savings account.
