Erie Trail subject to periodic closures September 4

According to the Prairie Trails Club Inc., The Erie Trail between Range Road and Starke County Road 700 South will be subject to periodic closures this upcoming Thursday, September 4.

Subsidence near wetlands has made sections of the trail’s asphalt surface rough.

The Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum owns the trail. In cooperation with the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum, the Prairie Trails Club Inc. is implementing a pilot project that places recycled asphalt millings for a smoother surface on rough sections. Repairs were made last week between Starke County Road 250 West and Range Road.

On September 4, additional repairs will be made to the Erie Trail east of Range Road to its crossing of CR 700 South. In the interest of public safety, the trail will be subject to periodic closures on this date. Bicyclists and walkers may be directed to a detour around the work zone or to await until the conclusion of individual work details.
