Pulaski County, IN – The Pulaski County Health Department announced the upcoming launch of “Stepping On,” an evidence-based fall prevention program designed to help older adults maintain their health, safety, and independence.
The program will be offered weekly from September 9 through October 21, 2025, on Tuesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Department’s Francesville location inside Parkview Haven.
Falls are the leading cause of injury among older adults, often resulting in hospitalization, loss of independence, or decreased quality of life. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in four adults aged 65 and older experiences a fall each year, and many of these falls are preventable.
“Stepping On” addresses this critical public health issue by equipping participants with practical strategies to reduce fall risks. The seven-week program combines gentle strength and balance exercises with educational sessions led by local health professionals. Guest experts will provide insight on vision care, medication management, home safety, and safe community mobility.
“Falls are not an inevitable part of aging,” said Stephen Newcomer, RN, Public Health Nurse, Pulaski County Health Department. “By participating in this program, older adults can learn proven techniques to stay active, confident, and independent for as long as possible.”
The “Stepping On” program is open to community members aged 60 and older who live independently and wish to enhance their mobility, reduce fall risk, and remain active in daily life.
