Kankakee Valley REMC accepting applications for Operation Round Up through December 1st

According to an announcement from Kankakee Valley REMC, they are accepting applications for their Operation Round Up program. Through this program, members can choose to round their monthly electric bills up to the nearest dollar. That spare change is then used to support local non-profit organizations, community projects, and scholarships for local students.

According to REMC, the small amounts add up. The average participating member contributes about six dollars per year with the change-rounding program, but with more than eighteen thousand customers taking part in the fundraiser, it adds up quickly. Kankakee Valley REMC reports that thousands of dollars in grants and scholarships that go out into the community are generated every year.

Local non-profit organizations can apply for Operation Round Up grants throughout the year, including right now through December 1st. REMC’s board of directors reviews applications four times annually, with this upcoming deadline for 2025’s final round of grants. The grants are designed to help charitable groups to fund meaningful projects that benefit local citizens.

In addition to supporting non-profit groups, Operation Round Up also supports young people in the community through a scholarship program available for graduating high school seniors. For the class of 2025, KV REMC awarded two scholarships worth $2,000 each, and four scholarships worth $1,000 each. These scholarships can be used for college or university costs, or for trade school.

In order to quality for a scholarship, the student’s parent or legal guardian must be a Kankakee Valley REMC member.

Anyone who isn’t yet taking part in Operation Round Up and would like to can sign up by contacting Kankakee Valley REMC at 1-800-552-2622, or by visiting KVREMC.com.
